AFSCME Forum: Richardson's Closing Statement

Governor Richardson just concluded his remarks at the AFSCME forum, and his closing statement focused on foreign policy and the need for a President with experience in that particulary policy issue.

Richardson reiterated that he's got experience that the other candidates don't. He said if we're going to resolve the issues in Iraq, we can't just talk to Iraq, we must also engage Iran and Syria.

Richardson said, "Diplomacy means talking to those who don't agree with us." He made a point by saying that finally President Bush talked with North Korea (something Richardson has been doing for years and suggested the Administration should do), and it resulted in a small agreement.

Concluding, Governor Richardson quoted former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by saying, "You don't make peace with your friends, you make it with your enemies."
