First Presidential Candidate Forum Today

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is hosting the first major forum among the 2008 Democratic candidates tonight in Carson City. Nevada is a heavily unionized state and this forum underlines the importance of Labor to any Democratic candidacy. While John Edwards has been labeled the so-called front-runner, Governor Richardson will be a force to contend with in Nevada.

Governor Richardson will join most of the other candidates, with the glaring exception of Senator Barack Obama ( he's claiming a scheduling conflict, but perhaps he's conceding union support to other candidates and/or conceding Nevada). Expected to speak are Senators Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Chris Dodd, former Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska, Representative Dennis Kucinich, and former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack.

As for the format of the forum, each candidate will be allowed to deliver an opening and closing statement and will also answer three questions from a moderator.

The forum will be televised on C-SPAN beginning at 12 p.m. You can watch the forum by clicking here.

As soon as the video is uploaded, we'll bring it to you here at Washington for Richardson.
